Wow, where do I begin?  What can I say about my hometown, Roanoke, Virginia?

1. We live here – (ha, gotcha) – it really is a great place to live
2. Situated in a valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains
3. We have a large Star that overlooks the valley on top of Mill Mountain, hence we are called the Star City of the South
4. Vibrant downtown with museums, a farmer’s market, great restaurants, shopping, living
5. City life/Country life
6. The Blue Ridge Parkway comes through our valley along with the Appalachian Trail
7. The city used to be called Big Lick back in the day (there was a salt lick near the Roanoke River that drew wildlife to the area)
8. Weather – we have all four seasons and none of them are very severe (normally)
9. Lots of festivals and outdoor activities to keep you busy all year long
10. Convenient to our Nation’s Capitol, beaches on the Eastern Coast, centrally located so that New York and Florida can be reached in a day by car if needed
11. Rich in history – Roanoke was part of the Great Wagon Road and Wilderness Road – early settlers of our country would pass through this area when heading north/south or east towards Tennessee
