The Art of Spider Webs

September 8, 2015 by tigermucha 2 Comments

Sunday I shared a picture of a spider web from my garden with you.  I like spiders in my garden, but not necessarily in my house.  And I love when I can see their web, from a distance, not when I walk into one, if you know what I mean.  I think they are magnificent artists and I am amazed at their work.  When Keith and I visited the Wetlands Trail we also were able to find a few big webs that stood out with a coat of heavy morning dew to illuminate them in the sun.

Spider Web along the Wetlands Trail

Luckily these were all well off the trail, so we were not in any danger of walking through them.

Large Brown Spider in it's web

This web even had it’s owner sitting right in the middle.  I was amazed we could see it from so far away.  It must have been a huge spider.
Spider Web and Spider

Not sure what kind of spider this is.  It was pretty big and I didn’t really care to get that close, even if I could have.  It’s web was stretched between some Goldenrod and Purple Ironweed in the middle of a big section of wetlands off the boardwalk part of the trail.

Bowl shaped spider web

We even found this web shaped like a bowl.  The spider is sitting below the leaf in the middle of the web.  He or she is another large brown spider.

But most of the webs were just big round ones, like this one.  Not sure where it’s resident artist was.  But it looked like it needed a little repair at the bottom. It would have been fun to watch those repairs being made, but only from a distance.
