Christmas Decor Roanoke Style

November 30, 2015 by tigermucha 1 Comment

This past Friday (Black Friday) my Mom and I did a little shopping locally in our downtown shops rather than hit the malls or Big Box stores.  I cannot remember the last time I hit one of those on the Friday after Thanksgiving.  I am thinking it was probably over 25 years ago.  And for the last few years my Mom comes up to visit from South Carolina and we spend that day visiting our historic downtown area and the local shops there.

This year we found a new shop that had all kinds of fun vintage décor.  We did a lot of looking, reminiscing and taking pictures of what we loved the most.

The shop is called Tink’s Place and I love their motto:

All you need is Faith, Trust and a little Pixie Dust

They had this cure little bench made from an old bedframe sitting outside the store.  And if you want to know exactly where Roanoke is, you can find it by the longitude and latitude right there on the pillow.  Just in case you get lost I guess.  But that really is a cute and clever idea for a gift.

Here is another cute display outside their shop.  I love the sign above the Holiday Greens Barrel – Waggin Tails are Welcome!

They had a neat old barrel from a tree farm filled with pretty Holiday Greens for sale.

Two large Magnolia Wreaths welcomed shoppers.  And yes, those are my feet reflecting in the glass.

When you walk inside, there is just so much to see. And so much to love!  These cute country Santa bottle toppers reminded me of gnomes.

They look like they are made of felted wool and I love the big noses and the fact that you cannot see their eyes.  They really are adorable.  And there are lots of glittery things, like the tree behind him, decorated with jingle bells and shiny baubles.

I liked this little leaning tree covered with snow.

And these twirly, twisted trees were awfully cute.

Everywhere you looked there were Putz Houses and Bottle Brush Trees. I like the picture holder behind the house, too.

There were plenty of Putz Houses to choose from, like these decorating a little tree.

This one is kind of lavender color with lots of glitter and a cute little pinecone tree.

And every tree has to have a Bird’s Nest.  These little ornaments with golden eggs are perfect!

My favorite of the Putz Houses were the Barns, complete with a wreath wearing bovine.

And they even had them without cows, too.  Aren’t they just adorable?

This little metal truck even had its own tree tied on back.

I also liked the tulle and tree inside this old Baby Shoe.  And of course the bling didn’t hurt, either. And there was another Putz House, too.  What a pretty vignette.

See?  Isn’t that just a clever idea?

And there was bling to be found everywhere.  These little Gilded Bottles and pretty stars on top of Pewter Trays looked gorgeous with the rustic and aged Birdcages.

How about these Mixed Metal Poinsettias?  And the Mercury Glass Votive Holders?  I can imagine the flickering light of a candle would really sparkle in a setting like this.

There were plenty of Mercury Glass Ornaments, too.  And some lovely Silver Tinsel.

And Wooden Spools of Ribbon were everywhere and there were so many different kinds.  Aren’t the little chalkboard price tags cute, too?

I just love how Mercury Glass shines and shimmers.  These ornaments would really add some sparkle to a Christmas Tree.

I think these were my favorite ornament.  They were Glass Pinecone Ornaments with little gilded deer and tinsel inside.  Just so pretty!

We really enjoyed our visit to Tink’s Place.  I am so glad that we don’t go to the Malls and Big Box stores on Black Friday.  The unique and creative items we found at Tink’s were inspiring and some were probably one of a kind since they also feature items made by local artists.  There were ceramics, furniture, pictures, art, greeting cards, jewelry, just to name a few.   It really was a feast for the eyes and it is definitely a shop that I will return to.

I hope that you don’t forget to support your local merchants and artisans during the holidays.  It will be well worth it, trust me!
