Treasures

May 9, 2015 by tigermucha 2 Comments

I had a fun morning hitting yard sales today.  I found a few treasures.

Treasures - Silverplate set

I found a set of Silverplate in pretty good condition for just $5.  Yes please.  Oh and the blue you see in the spoons?  That’s my shirt.  These cleaned up very nicely.

And two silver award bowls.  This one being cleaned is from a church youth group dated 1954.  The other one was for 33 years dedicated service for a local company hat is no longer in business.  I like these little awards and trophy pieces .  And the easiest way to clean them up? Line the sink with aluminum foil, shiny side up, lay your silver in, sprinkle with a good dose of baking soda and then poor in enough boiling water to cover.  Some pieces will instantly shine up, others will need to sit a little while longer.  But it is easy and involves no harsh chemicals.

See how nice and shiny they look after their foil and soda bath?

The set turned out nice.  A fun little bit of flatware found today.  Another yard sale treasure.  What treasures have you found recently?

Hi, Teresa! These look gorgeous! Last week I cleaned some of my silver using baking soda, vinegar and aluminum foil. Have you cleaned silver jewelry the same way you cleaned your treasures? I want to try removing the tarnish form few of my rings, but I don’t know if the stones will be fine. May be if I try your way only soda and water will be better. I’m still crazy for those jewelry storage frames! Greets!

Hi Lynn! I have not tried any jewelry but I would try only sterling silver pieces without gemstones. I don’t know how they would react to being cleaned this way. If you do try let me know how it works. I may try if I can find an old cheap piece while out looking form more treasures! I am looking for more frames while out hunting so I can make a few more of the jewelry frames. I think they will make great gifts.

      Regards,
      Teresa
