Our Way Out West Vacation!
This year we went way out west and visited our family in California, and stayed with Keith's parents, drove to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, and ended with our annual family reunion in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was quite a trip!
On April 24th, we drove up to Santa Barbara to meet Keith's sister Janice, and her boyfriend Robbie and his Grandmother, along with Keith's second cousin Nick, for dinner.

Heading east, to the Grand Canyon on the 26th, we were provided with the opportunity to travel on Historic Route 66 from Kingman to Seligman before reaching Williams, Arizona. First we stopped to take some pictures outside of Victorville, CA and in the Mohave Desert.

We stayed in Williams, AZ on April 26 and 27, so that we could be close to the Grand Canyon and close for our next destination, Las Vegas, NV. When we arrived, they were calling for snow, and it was very cold at over 7,000 feet in elevation. Luckily, we didn't have snow, just a few hail storms, but they were interesting. Williams is a nice little town to visit, and we give it a thumbs up.

On April 27, we took a loop tour to the Grand Canyon and on to the Wupatki National Monument and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument before heading back to Williams for the night. It was a long and busy day.
I took way too many pictures of the Grand Canyon, but still I don't think it was enough. And I know the camera doesn't do it justice. I have them broken down into categories, mostly by lookout or observation point.
After the Grand Canyon, we headed back towards Flagstaff on Route 89, so that we could see the Wupatki Pueblo ruins and Sunset Crater. We didn't have a lot of time, but it was worth the extra drive. It was amazing to see! The Wupatki Pueblo ruins date to the 1100's. They were built on existing rock formations, and are centered between several different ancient Indian cultures.

A little farther down the road was Sunset Crater. Sunset Crater erupted some 800 years ago and is a beautiful Cinder Crater surrounded by several other dormant volcanoes. We walked thru the Bonita Lava Flow before heading back to Flagstaff and on to Williams for the night.

On April 28th, we headed to Las Vegas for our annual Family Reunion. Those attending this year were Keith and Myself, his parents Al & Ruth, my Uncle Phil, Cousins John and Maurine, their children Nick and Kim and her husband Mark, Cousins Betty and Ray, and their children Summer and her husband Mike, April and her children Brett and Shaylyn. I think that's everyone! We were missing quite a few, Uncle Walter and Aunt Rose, Aunt Betty and Cousin Sally, Aunt Bette, Janice and Robbie, and Gary and Mary Ella, Dennis and Mike and Vicki. Hopefully everyone will be able to make it next year. We had a great time visiting with everyone, though the time is always too short.
